The butterfly for me represents the transformation and symbol of life, endurance, change and hope.
The metamorphosis of a butterfly is one of the most iconic examples of transformation in nature, from the start as a larva. It evolves into the caterpillar, finally becoming a beautiful flying creature which is one of the most beautiful natural miracles.
The magnificent, yet short life of the butterfly closely mirrors the process of spiritual transformation and serves to remind us that life is short.
There's something magical about the transformation of a caterpillar to a butterfly, making these beautiful winged insects a favorite of many.
A helping hand
Butterfly often appears when someone is going through tough times, as a symbol of support.
A lightness of being
A butterfly is a light, gentle, silent creature. If it appears in someone’s life to bring a message that the person should relax and get rid of heavy thoughts.
Butterflies in the stomach Often known as a physical sensation in humans of a "fluttery" feeling in the stomach, caused by a reduction of blood flow to the organ.
Falling in love and finding your soulmate may give you butterflies in your stomach, but it's your brain that's ultimately doing most of the reacting.
My journey to wellbeing through art
One of the first wellbeing art classes and my absolute favourite was "The Zen Butterfly"

The Zen Butterfly
For this project you will create a butterfly in a Zentangle style and incorporate a flight trail with writing on it that symbolises you flying away from the things you want to let go of.
This type of drawing is meditative and can hope you focus on the positive intentions.
The butterfly is also flying towards the sun; which you will fill with your intentions or things you want to be in your life.
Before starting think back to the previous year or phase in your life and reflect on the following questions:
1. What did not go well?
2. What do you want to let go off?
3. What went well? What did you enjoy?
4. What do you want to take with you into the next year/phase?
5. What positive experiences or qualities do you want to call in more of?
6. What are your positive intentions about this year/phase?
